For the past year week it has been irritatingly windy as hell (I have no other word that is appropriate) here in Colorado. So windy in fact that one morning one of those huge highway signs fell on a semi-truck on a main highway in Denver. Needless to say I’ve had it with this weather. May is supposed to be the month it starts getting warm, green and flowers bloom abundantly and it’s also time when my photography business starts getting busy.
I’ve decided that there is a lesson for me in this week of irritation and waiting. The lesson is patience. I might be ready for Summer…but Mother Nature isn’t quite ready yet. I have to accept where she’s at (she being Mother Nature) and embrace the waiting. In the meantime I’ve found myself wasting time…which actually feels kind of nice!? I have been “Gone with the wind”, so to speak.
"Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time." - Marthe Troly-Curtin
This week I’m sharing what I’ve been “Time I’ve enjoyed Wasting”, a Mother’s Day Sale for both photographers & clients and images I love lately.
🔗Absolutely loved reading this piece on the exploration of artistic beginnings in all their forms (gifted issue from NYTStyleMag). There are some really good stories about how different artists began their work - and keep beginning.
Remember that the maker almost never knows exactly what they’re making in advance. The great works often appear when we’re aiming toward something completely different. Start as soon as you see a way in. I [also] find it helpful to work on multiple things at the same time. Not in the same moment but during the same general time period. The beauty is that different projects are at different stages, so you can avoid getting burned out on any one [thing]. - Rick Rubin
🎧 I listen to the podcast Armchair Expert regularly (are there any fellow Arm Cherries here?!) and I swear in almost every episode I come away learning something new and intriguing. In a recent episode Dax and Monica interview with Patric Gagne author who is a psychologist, author and diagnosed Sociopath. You guys. This listen is FASCINATING. She is nothing you’d imagine stereotypical sociopath to be. Pair it with this online quiz and there you have a dinner topic conversation that could last for hours or…come back here and let’s discuss in the comments!
📺 My husband and I are almost finished with the Mr. and Mrs. Smith series on Prime and I really have been loving it. I like it so much more than the original movie with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. It’s a comedy/drama series and I wanted to binge the whole thing in one sitting.
📮 Substack Newsletters I’ve recently been enjoying:
- this is SO GOOD. An archive of interesting topics that I would never have thought to explore on my own. - really fun recommendations and rabbit holes that are always worth it. Also - the author loves Diet Coke so we are obviously soul mates. - A newsletter from a true Charcuterie connoisseur. Her creations are truly a work of art.🎬 I am not usually a fan of rom-com movies but I really did love The Idea of You. This might be an odd reason to like a movie but I loved it for it’s rich use of color and incorporation of music throughout. I also really love Anne Hathaway and never understood the weird hate she got years ago.
😆 This made me laugh…but also maybe it’s true?
👩🍳 Recommendations by three different trusted sources convinced me to buy this Cookbook. You can too! Let’s share our favorite recipes soon.
