A weekly note to inspire conversation about creativity and art.
Motherhood has long been one of my most favorite subjects to photograph. Being a mother is truly one of life’s most amazing gifts and as mother myself I know how fleeting time can feel - how fast our babies grow into young adults. One of the biggest inspirations and motivators in my career as a photographer has been my two sons and I find rich meaning in documenting Motherhood for myself and other women.
Today at the top of this email I wanted to let you know that I am offering motherhood studio sessions on Sunday, February 18th in a natural light studio in Denver, Colorado. These studio sessions are shorter and meant to be simple - to showcase your beautiful connection with your children. You will receive a final gallery of memories that you will have documented for a lifetime.
Each shoot includes twenty minutes in the studio, and included is 15 edited hi-res photos that you can choose from your private online gallery. You will have the option to purchase more for an additional $25/each. The studio has flood of gorgeous natural light and a very minimal set up so we can focus on the little moments between you and your children. My goal is to make you feel both natural and beautiful and for you kids to enjoy this time with you. I will never ask them to look at me and smile…I guarantee we will be able to document those authentic moments of Motherhood as you are present in front of the camera.
As a dedicated subscriber to this space, I am offering these sessions 3 days early to you so you can secure a spot if you’ve been thinking of booking something for you and your children (or a friend, mother, co-worker that would appreciate the gift of photographs!)
*Something to note: there are only 6 of these spots available. If these sell quickly and there is enough interest I am considering adding an additional date.
Here are the Details:
WHEN & WHERE:
Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Realm Studio in Denver.
HOW MUCH:
$550
20 minute photo session with you and your children. 15 edited high-resolution images to treasure with the option to purchase more for $25/each.
WHAT’S INCLUDED:
I really want these to represent your style and what makes you feel most beautiful and comfortable. That being said I do think a neutral color palette photographs brilliantly especially in a studio environment. I highly encourage bare feet and bare bellied babies (and mamas!), your favorite jeans, a flowy, ethereal shirt, or a chunky knit sweater. Pops of color are also wonderful to scatter in with the neutral colors. Minimal patterns and logos are not the most photogenic.
*included in your purchase will be a style board and we can always chat about this further!

📝 Here are some questions I’m pondering
Please answer any/all of them in the comments, or just add your own thoughts.
Have you explored/played with the use of AI into your photography? What do you find good or bad about it? I’m genuinely curious about how it might be a help or hinderance to creating art.
Does music play a role in your creativity? For me it seems to inspire me so often to create something.
If you had to choose one thing to improve on in your work what would it be?

Guillaume Nalin is a photographer located in France and his work features amazing techniques used in polaroid photography. The black and white image on the left is called “Medusa” shot on Polaroid SX70 with Close-up Lens + Polaroid Type 600 Black and White Film. It is the image that first stopped me in my tracks and made me want to explore how Guillaume created it. His instagram is full of polaroid inspiration and I’d love to know more about his process.

📌 Quote of the week
💡 Creative Exercise
Pick an activity that you are brand new at and just give it a try.
I just recently took a snowboarding lesson with my family because my boys wanted to learn. I grew up skiing and snowboarding was a totally different and fun activity to try. It honestly surprised me! Do something that surprises you…you may end of really loving it AND you will definitely suck at it at the beginning 😂.
As always thank you so much for being here dear subscribers! I am working hard to bring you a photography course that is fulfilling and will help you grow in your art and business. I’d love to hear what you are most excited about learning as I craft the experience for you. Also remember that this is a community for you and other photographers to connect! We can chat in the Substack app (to join our chat, you can to download the Substack app, now available for iOS and Android. Chats are sent via the app, not email.)
